The kinetics of CH_4 partial oxidation was investigated in a structured reactor at high space velocity under well-controlled operating conditions. High temperatures favored the production of CO and H_2. At increasing space velocity, CO and H_2 selectivities showed a moderate and a strong decrease respectively. Increase of O_2/CH_4 feed ratio caused a shift to higher temperatures of methane conversion and syngas production. These effects could be accounted for by a simplified kinetic scheme, which includes methane deep oxidation, steam and dry reforming, WGS and the consecutive oxidations of CO and H_2.
