ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINATIONS OF MOUNTAIN REGIONS: PROBLEMS AND DECISIONS

摘要

The problem of radioactive contamination of the environment in the mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan is discussed. The main sources of radioactive and toxic contamination of an environment are classificated. The problem of radiation safety is connected basically to conditions of uranium industry waste tailings storage. Is shown that these tailings render a negative influence on the environment. Ecological conditions in these mountain areas are deteriorating from year to year because of the activation of dangerous geological processes, such as earthquakes, landslides, landslips. The possible consequences of environmental changes in zones of increased risk with radioactive and toxic contamination are considered. Is shown, that the risk from the influence of technogenic and natural ecological accidents, in particular such as breaking of dams and waste tailings, is sharply increased because of transboundary influence on territory and population of the neighbouring states.
