A gradual decrease in concentration of NPhEO and variations in its composition in the process of filtration through a proposed adsorption-biosorption system were studied. An adsorption system consisting of two parts was investigated in this study. The first part was loaded with ordinary AC. The second part was loaded with AC, that was infected by bacteria-degraders of the surfactant. Aeration of the solution was arranged between these two parts of the system. When the solution, containing surfactants, is filtered through the first part of the AC packing, chromatographic separation of the initial substance and its biodegradation products takes place. Then still another separation of biodegradation products occurs along the second part of the adsorption columns. The most effective biodegradation process occurs in the AC underlying layers. A new type of biosorber on the basis of these studies has been proposed. The developed biosorber enables to reach very high degree of purification of wastewater from NPhEO, from COD 159 mgO2·L~(-1) to COD of 7 mgO_2·L~(-1).
