MAGNETO-OPTICS OF INHOMOGENEOUS TWO-DIMENSIONAL ELECTRON GAS

We review our theoretical understanding of anomalies in the emission from the homogeneous interacting two-dimensional electron gas at integer filling factors, in particular the change in the magnetic field dependence of the emission in the vicinity of filling factor 2 due to the renormalization of the band-gap. We compare these predictions with predictions from a competing model which involves inhomogeneous disordered electron gas leading to re-appearance of exciton and charged exciton-like resonance at filling factor < 2.
