Measured total gross alpha radioactivity levels in ash samples of the plant are given in Table 1. It is seen that the radioactivity levels in flying ash are slightly greater than the slag ashen for all ash samples. This is an expected result, because of the slag ashen is not fired as well as flying ash. Calculated effective dose equivalent rate values including all radioisotopes and pathways effect around the plant environment by CAP88-PC code are given in Table 3. It is seen that the maximum effective dose equivalent rate is 0.54 μSv/y. This value is recommended by the International Commission of Radiation Protection and it do not any risk for public health around the plant environment. In this study, the effective dose equivalent rate values obtained around the facility by CAP88-PC code are depend on the measured gross alpha activities in a known time period. It is necessary and important to make radioactivity measurements in the ash samples of YPP periodically to check the radioactivity levels in ash samples for radiological dose assessment, since YPP works and burned lignite continuously. If there is an increase radioactivity levels of the ash samples which means that lignite with high concentrations is burned. In this case, authorized persons have to take require precaution to protect public from the radiation hazards.
