ROLE OF JAHN-TELLER COUPLING IN G-VALUES OF C_(60~-)

A model based on a static Jahn-Teller distortion of C_(60) is shown to explain the experimentally observed g values of C_(60)~-. The results of t_(1u) directX h_g coupling in which the distortion axis can be in any direction are recounted. This static Jahn-Teller coupling explains the axial g tensors that are observed. The more common isotropic g tensors are explained in terms of a collection of individual statically distorted C_(60) molecules in which the distortion axes are randomly distributed relative to the applied magnetic field axis.
