摘要

The biological systems of the Northern Aral Sea have adapted to new environmental conditions posed by a drastically lowered sea level. Based on field and experimental data collected between 1989 - 1996 and some earlier studies from the 1960-80s, new inferences on autochthonic orgnaic matter production and cyling in planktonic and benthic communities are presented. The benthic system is shown to be of high importnace in biosedimentation and utilization of produced orgnaic matter. Due to natural seasonal and occasional man-made water level fluctuations caused by damming in Berg's Strait, the role of land-sea interactions in the supply and transformation of orgnaic matter are shown to the importnat in some coastal areas.
