The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction: health risks

The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and long-range means of delivery continues to be a matter of serious concern as it can pose a direct threat to national and international security. Many publications covering political and military thinking on the subject have appeared over the past few years. In view of the potential major health hazards facing nations and their armed forces, it would seem appropriate to present the risks inherent in weapons of mass destruction and similar noxious substances from a medical perspective. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of the risks that exist and the resources we need to counter those risks.
