Finite element modelling studies have been carried out on 1-3 piezocomposite transducers, using ATILA code. An elementary unit of the piezocomposite is modelled and periodic boundary condition is imposed to simulate the infinite extent in the lateral directions. Semi-infinite fluid medium on the top and bottom sides of the composite plate is also included in the model. The transducer characteristics namely the electrical impedance of the 1-3 piezocomposite transducers with and without face-plates are evaluated in the frequency range 1-500 kHz. The model results agree well with the experimentally measured impedance data.
