In the name of progress and industrialization, the man is probably crossing the limits and pushing this earth to an endangered and unrepairable condition. The human activities on the earth are producing many wastes. Especially the industrial activities are resulting in the production of many wastes or pollutants, which are causing the environmental pollution. These industrial pollutants are not only polluting the drinking water but also breathing air. Some of the industrial wastes are causing land pollution and making the land infertile. These industrial wastes if not taken care can affect the health of society.rnMany industrial wastes like flyash, blast furnace slag, red mud, silica fume, spent foundry sand etc. are causing serious problems of environmental pollution along with disposal problems. Any process of utilizing such wastes is a welcoming a step. The construction industry, since beginning is trying to use these industrial wastes in one or the other form in construction, thus reducing the load of pollutants on the earth.rnIn this paper an attempt is made to use spent foundry sand in concrete by replacing the natural sand thus saving the natural resources of sand. The natural sand is replaced by 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% by spent foundry sand in concrete. The strength characteristics of concrete wherein the natural sand is replaced by spent foundry sand are dealt in detail.
