With the technological advances in the field of civil engineering, a lot of innovations have taken place as for as concrete preparation and handling is concerned. Since the time immemorial, civil engineers are using different type of admixtures with concrete to improve its properties. Romans were, the first to add milk and blood to mortar and concrete to achieve better workability. Since then many developments have taken place and led to the discovery of superplasticizers. Superplasticizers are added to concrete to get highly workable concrete. They are also used to lower the water requirement of concrete. Superplasticizers are also known as superfluidifiers, superwater reducers or high range water reducers. An experimental study has been made to study the behaviour of superplasticized concrete as far as workability and strength of concrete is concerned. Tests were performed on fresh concrete for slump and for compressive strength on hardened concrete. It was inferred that addition of superplasticizer increases the workability considerably. It was also observed that slump loss in concrete could be checked by some repeated addition of superplasticizer in concrete.
