A case history on deformation management of embankment constructed on ultra soft reclaimed land

An embankment constructed on an ultra-soft reclaimed land had begun to move after its construction due to the uneven force acting on the both sides of embankment. As urgent countenneasures, the counterweight and water level control were adopted. At the same time, the monitoring using the inclinometer was performed and causes of displacement were investigated. In addition, the criteria continuing the safety filling work was prescribed and utilized at the site. In case the horizontal displacement velocity of 20 mm/day was observed successively 3 days, the filling work was prescribed to stop promptly. By such management of displacement, the filling work was successfully completed.
