A gravity type quay wall is made of a caisson or other gravity retaining structure placed on the subsoil as a foundation. The major stability systems are based on the mass of the wall and the friction at the bottom of the wall and the bearing capacity of foundation against the reaction force between the wall bottom and foundation. To maintain the stability of gravity type quay wall on soft soil condition, a new type of caisson was developed, which has extended footing. To investigate the behavior of a caisson with extended footing quay wall during static and dynamic conditions, a series of centrifuge model test and underwater shake table test was conducted. The behavior of caisson with extended footing quay wall during the tests were made by comparing the conventional reinforced concrete caisson type quay wall tests and it showed small differences.
