摘要

To protect sea resources from enteric bacteria pollution, deriving from discharges of the rivers and therntreatment plants, management and safeguarding practices must be devised based on a sound knowledge ofrnthe water contamination and of the fate of these organisms in the environment. This work presents thernextension of a previous study [1], performed for years 2000-2004, to the period 2000-2006 with thernnecessary consideration of the water profile, required by the Directive 2006/07/EC [2] concerning thernmanagement of bathing water quality and repealing Directive 76/160/EEC, in the coastal belt of the Provincernof Venice (Italy, Northern Adriatic Sea). The historic data-base, already recovered in the previous study, hasrnbeen implemented with the new monitoring data for the period 2004-2006 (data on rivers, bathing andrnmarine-coastal waters and on the characterization of Wastewaters Treatment Plants' ? WWTPs ? discharges)rnfrom the institutional activity of ARPAV (Veneto Regional Environmental Prevention and Protection Agency).rnAn integrated areal analysis of homogeneous stretches along the coast of the Province of Venice wasrnperformed for the microbiological investigation in order to characterize the water profile with considerationrnof the water quality status and the pressure sources.rnThe considered faecal indicators are: Total Coliforms, Faecal Coliforms, Faecal Strepotococci, Escherichia Coli.rnThe faecal indicators are used because they are much easier and less costly to detect and enumerate thanrnthe pathogens themselves. The application of the approach expressed in the new European legal frameworkrn(directive 2000/60/EC [3] and directive 2006/07/EC [2]) requires the overtaking of distinct analysis for eachrnsingle matrix (rivers, marine waters, WWTP effluents, etc.). The new approach favours integrated qualityrnassessment of the separated components of the territorial hydro-systems, analysed for their reciprocalrnrelationships in accordance to Driving forces-Pressures-State-Impact-Responses (DPSIR) model [4].
