Produced water is the largest wastewater stream in the oil and gasrnexploitation and production processes. The present research work was donernas a part of the TOP Water project. TOP Water is an acronym forrnTreatment of Produced Water and focuses on new treatment strategies andrncharacterization of produced water. The goal of this project is to achievernvery efficient removal of dispersed oil (< 2 ppm dispersed oil in the effluent)rnand significant removal of dissolved compounds which have a significantrncontribution to the EIF (environmental impact factor) of a discharge.rnA treatment process based on sorption and biodegradation was chosen to bernused for the removal of the soluble compounds.
