The overall goal of any casting process is to make a sound, defect-free product. One of the important requirements for casting dental prostheses is how well the thin sections of the mold are filled, which is referred to as "mold filling" in this article. Wedge-shaped, right-triangle specimens with either 15° or 30° angles were prepared. Mold filling was evaluated as the missing length between the angled edge of the casting and the theoretical edge. The results from some titanium alloys [CP Ti, Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-6Al-7Nb, Ti-Cu (Cu, 1 and 4 mass%), Ti-Fe (1%), Ti-Al(5%)-Fe(1%), and Ti-Hf (10-40%)] were compared with results from a dental precious alloy (Au-Ag-Cu-Pd) and a non-precious alloy (Ni-Cr). The present method differentiated the mold filling among metals tested and is considered to be a useful method of screening alloys for dental use.
