In this paper, a low phase-noise oscillator using a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) based on a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) has been proposed and developed for microwave applications. The substrate integrated concept is applied to implement an oscillator circuit. The unloaded Q factor of the SIW cavity is increased by loading a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR). A detailed explanation for generation of the resonant frequency has been illuminated. It is shown that the low phase-noise oscillator is developed by taking advantage of the high Q factor of the CSRR-loaded SIW structure. An unloaded Q-factor (QU) of the designed resonator is 1960. Measured results show that the oscillation frequency is located at 9.3 GHz. The amplitude of output power is able to deliver 11.3 dBm and phase-noise of -122.3 dBc/Hz at a 1-MHz offset. The implementation of this type oscillator can be easily realized and appropriate for low cost microwave and millimeter-wave applications.
