A potential mechanism for location variability in built-up areasnhas been established, which works together with multiple buildingndiffraction effects to provide a theoretical model of urban propagationnwhich does not rely upon empirically determined correction factors. Annovel method of multiple knife edge diffraction calculation has beennapplied, permitting relatively rapid computations with variable buildingnheights. Signal variability was found to be substantially constant withnrange and increasing with frequency, which is consistent withnmeasurements. The authors develop the Walfisch model to account for theneffects of variable building heights using an unusual numericalntechnique for multiple edge diffraction prediction
