摘要

The global market for biodegradable polymers will amount to an estimated 932 million pounds in 2011 and is expected to increase to more than 2.5 billion pounds in 2016, despite current drawbacks of high prices and lack of composting infrastructure. The utilization of the waste resources contribute to reduce the production costs of biopolymers and feature a future-oriented approach of solving disposal problems for the involved industrial branches. A sustainable and value-added conversion of waste from slaughterhouses, rendering industry, and waste fractions of the biodiesel production is the aim of the project "Biotechnological conversion of carbon containing wastes for eco-efficient production of high added value products-ANIMPOL". The main objective is the development of an industrial process that brings together the solution of industrial waste problems with essential alternative strategies for polymer industry.
