Applicability of Wireless Sensor Networks is found in fields manifold. Energy issues proved to be a continuous setback to the performance of these networks. Data aggregation and the use of local base stations is seen as a promising solution to the problem. Clustering is a simple technique to achieve this. The local base stations or the cluster heads aggregate data from nearby nodes, process it and transfer data to the main base station(s). Density based approach to clustering, out of all, holds a better promise since geographical deployment of nodes is closely related to density of nodes in a region. This paper proposes an improvement of energy efficient density based clustering technique. Main idea is to restrict the number of cluster heads chosen to the minimum requirements. Simulation results show it is better as compared to other popular density based techniques.
