Performance Analysis of High-Density Material for X-Ray Image Detectors

X-ray imaging is one of the most significant fields of medical diagnostics. For direct conversion imaging, the photoconductor layer of X-ray image detector plays a significant role in X-ray image creation. In this paper the performance of Cs2Hg6S7 based photodetectors has been evaluated in comparison to commercially available amorphous Selenium (a-Se) based detectors for mammographic and chest radiographic X-rays. X-ray sensitivity of Cs2Hg6S7 has been investigated for various photoconductor thicknesses and charge carriers' mobility-lifetime (μτ) products at operating electric fields. It has been found that the X-ray sensitivity of Cs2Hg6S7 detector is higher than that of a-Se at applied electric fields. It is also found that the sensitivity of Cs2Hg6S7 based detector can be improved by increasing the mobility-lifetime product of holes.
