The paper analyzes the constraints of technical means for support of modern distance education systems and provides guidelines how they should be overcome, so that their users can enjoy full capabilities of multimedia and interactive systems in the online environment.A higher development stage of NGA known as Very High Capacity Network, also referred to as “networks for gigabit society, is discussed, which is very closely interconnected with 5G networks that will become a unified environment for connectivity both at a fixed location and on the go.In this paper we attempt to view e-learning from the perspective of application needs, considering various types of content and their specific demands. Special attention is paid to suitable data transmission technologies, their capabilities and the respective services, the quality and parameters of which should be guaranteed by the operators according to objective criteria. Consequently we introduce a flexible multipurpose platform that can be used for experimental verification of Internet connection parameters in the industry as well as in school laboratories.
