A building which has rigid basement and has dominant first mode, is separated into two parts as rigid basement and upper stories in determining of seismic loads. It is clear that separating the building which has rigid basement into two parts is reasonable. However, separating the building into two parts does not hold true if the building has semi-rigid basement. In this study, we used RC frame buildings which have different rigidity level in basement to investigate the effect of the basement rigidity on seismic response of RC buildings. The level of the ratio of the column width and total frame span length which makes the floor as rigid was investigated. Also we investigated the difference between equivalent seismic load method and mode superposition method which are used to determine seismic base shear for sample buildings while shear walls ratio increases.
