It is evident that the cover test box described in this paper works well as a standardizedmeasurement technique, and provides a uniform and repeatable method that yields a more usefuland convenient metric for evaluating cover performance. It allows for small variations in thecover design to be tested using the same repeatable reference source, and one-to-one comparisonscan be made for each variation. Expensive and difficult-to-obtain system frames are no longerneeded for measuring new cover designs, allowing covers to be developed and tested well inadvance of the full system development. Additionally, the AAR metric introduced in this paperprovides a reliable single number rating of attenuation, suitable for use in the design anddevelopment of acoustical covers, and potentially many other applications.
