Mercury pollution in aquatic environment is becoming increasingly serious, which poses a threat to the ecological environment and human health. Traditional methods are costly and time consuming since they require sophisticated instruments and professional operation. Thus simple and on-site detection of mercury (II) ions (Hg2+) is extremely expected. In this study, we constructed a one-step lateral flow strip that can selectively detect Hg2+ in solution based on the thymine-Hg2+-thymidine (T-Hg2+-T) mismatch principle. Detect probe (poly T20) were designed to bind to compete probe (poly A20) which can compete with Hg2+ to bind detect probe, leading to the color change on the test line. Moreover, a home-made bionic E-eye system was developed as a portable in-situ detection platform to efficiently measure the Hg2+ in 10 minutes by direct photographing. Under optimized experimental conditions, the developed lateral flow strip had a detection limit of 2 ppb and could detect up to 400ppb.
