Satellite Design Automation using AI tools in step_SATdb and QuickSAT, a web based and open source satellite design automation environment

Research is being conducted by the Air Force Research Labs and NASA to develop the next generation of collaborative aerospace design automation tools to meet Department of Defense's needs for Responsive Space and NASA's needs for rapid satellite deployment. The principal of "Responsive space " is to deploy a satellite from idea to launch in less than two weeks. QuickSAT is a web based collaborative systems engineering and design environment that automates the systems engineering and design process and tracks the design to the requirements of the customer. QuickSAT utilizes the open source step_SATdb architecture as a basis for its infrastructure. In this paper the step_SATdb architecture will be discussed including how the open architecture is implemented, and how it is integrated with other commercial applications. We will also share how others may apply their custom applications to the open source environment, and how the step_SATdb and QuickSAT captures the systems engineering and design process utilizing AI based design modules as related to the PnP SAT and SBIR SAT Missions.
