摘要

GSM Onboard Aircraft system is the currently standardizing solution to provide GSM connectivity in flights. Basically a picocell installed in the cabin will provide the GSM coverage and a satellite link will keep the connection between the aircraft and the existing terrestrial mobile network. In this work the arising issues of such a system are addressed. The system architecture is investigated, particularly the satellite interface; parameters as delay, jitter and packet error rate, are measured and analyzed for two mounted test scenarios using a system demonstrator, a real satellite link and a satellite simulator. Finally a subjective test of voice quality - Mean Opinion Score - is performed. The result provides a valuable set of data and parameters suited for improving future onboard communications systems.
