TECHNOLOGY ENABLED ASSESSMENT ENVIRONMENT

With the advent of the information age and the everrnincreasing cut throat competition, more and more numberrnof examinees take examinations (exams) every year. Mostrnof the objective exams comprise of manual filling ofrnOptical Mark Recognition (OMR), which requires higherrninvestment in terms of software as well as hardware andrnmay not be available with every institute; furthermore;rnevaluation also takes a significant amount of time.rnAlthough online-exams provide students with quickerrnresults and enhanced convenience, but the hardware costrnand availability does not make it the best solution. In thisrnpaper, we aim at productive use of devices & technologyrnfor quick and facile assessment of answer sheets, and alsornreduce the hardware and software cost while retaining thernfunctionality. In today’s world mobile phones (cellrnphones) are most portable, affordable and commonlyrnavailable devices. This project facilitates students to givernobjective exam (Quizzes) in the traditional environmentrnwhere the hard copy of question paper is distributed, butrnwith an important change i.e. Simulated OMR (SOMR)rnsheets on their mobile phones for filling out the answers.rnInstantaneous evaluation is done with the help ofrnBluetooth technology. Moreover, its portability reducesrnpreliminary preparations and hardware support. Therninexpensiveness, low energy consumption and automatedrnbehaviour of Bluetooth technology make it an idealrntransmission medium. We strongly feel that, with properrnsecurity measures, this project will provide us a costrneffective solution for conduction of objective exams.
