Using analytical tools for real-time flight test monitoring has always been a fundamental part of an FTE's job; however, as monitoring requirements during system development increase in both complexity and criticality, the role of the on-board data analysis software is expanding from being a helpful FTE tool towards being a mission critical aircraft sub-system. If this increased reliance on data analysis software is not properly managed, it can quickly become a burden and a distraction from test execution, which will ultimately impact test safety. This paper uses examples from recent aircraft certification programs at the Bombardier Flight Test Center to highlight lessons learned from utilizing IADS software to manage these rapidly growing developmental monitoring requirements. It will also cover the evolution of BFTC's analysis window design philosophy to meet existing needs and enhance extensibility to future programs.
