Gas flow in a generic inlet with flat walls and rectangular cross section is studied experimentally. An inlet is installed on flat plate at the significant distance from its leading edge. Experiments are made in the Ludwieg type wind tunnel at Mach number M_∞ = 5 and 8 and at different Reynolds numbers. Panoramic optical methods are used for measurements of heat flux and pressure distributions. The data about an influence of leading edges bluntness of plate, cowl, and compressing wedges on heat transfer and flow structure inside an inlet, as well as on the inlet starting are obtained. It is shown that at high channel contraction ratio the blunting of inlet leading edges can cause the global change of flow structure.
