THE STUDY ON FAILURE CONDITION OF CID COVER GLASS DURING HEAD IMPACT TEST

The vehicle equipped CID which is available to communicate various information to occupants recently has increased. The CID is usually equipped on a center fascia and the display is covered with glass to protect LCD having touch interface function. The CID is mostly located inside the test zone of UNECE R21 - the regulation is for the head injury protection of occupant during impact to interior parts and the secondary injury caused by sharp edges or scattering splinters. Therefore these should be considered in the CID development and it can save time and cost to develop using CAE in the early stage. The failure condition founded by CAE enables to find countermeasures efficiently. LS-Dyna, common solver in the field of crash analysis, was used in this study. More accurate FE model was built through the correlation with test results for the failure prediction of cover glass. Based on the CAE analysis results, the cause of failure and countermeasures was found. The final countermeasure was confirmed by the physical test.
