In this paper, vehicle driving cycle sampling route, data acquisition and developing process are discussed. Based on Principal Component Analysis and K-means cluster analysis, Xi'an downtown hybrid electric city bus transient driving cycle (XATD-HBUS) is developed. A model of 10 driving conditions is proposed to describe Xi'an hybrid electric city bus modal driving cycle (XA-Mode10). By calculating the model based on cluster analysis and multi-objective optimization, Xi'an hybrid electric bus modal driving cycle (XA-Mode10) is synthesized. The errors between XATD-HBUS, XA-Mode10, ECE cycle and the overall sampling data are analyzed. The results of the analysis show that XATD-HBUS cycle and XA-Mode10 cycle can well reflect Xi'an downtown electric hybrid city bus actual road condition. XATD-HBUS, XA-Mode10 and ECE driving cycles are used to simulated exhaust emissions of city hybrid electric bus. Comparison indicates that the city bus in XATD-HBUS cycle and XA-Mode10 cycle has similar emissions, but emissions in ECE cycle are higher.
