A number of cooling fans has been tested in various surrounding structures. So far the results by the author have been presented for one rotational speed of each fan type. However, the speed of the fan is adjusted in a lot of applications and therefore it is important to know how the sound power depends on the rotational speed of the fan, too. The study has been carried out with a cooling fan application but the overall remarks can be applied to all fans. The results have been presented as sound power levels and 1/3-octave band spectra for one operation point of each fan. The specific sound power approach is based on a certain dependency of the sound power on the speed and velocities of the fan. Some remarks have been done on applying the specific sound power level for scaling fan noise and how the dependency on speed could be taken into account in a simple way.
