Analysis of groundwater contamination by former ammunition plants: large scale risk assessment with GIS

Contaminated land by former ammunition plants poses a serious problem in Germany. The major problem with these contaminated sites is the risk of groundwater pollution by organic explosive compounds in the soil. We are developing a GIS-based approach for a large scale risk assessment with low exploration costs to approximate long-term contaminant release possibilities of pollutants into the groundwater.
