The EMCO LabKit is a versatile laboratory instrument that is designed to measure the temperature-dependent properties of phosphors. A small group of motivated undergraduate students (physics majors in this case) can successfully learn how to use the LabKit to measure the fluorescence decay time for a material like MgD4TEA is much less than one semester. Through its use, these same students itemized the strengths and weaknesses of the LabKit V1.0 and provided some concept sketches for an improved model V2.0. Work will continue into summer 2015 where the students will help publish some of the technical data gathered during this program.
