The 21th century is largely dependent on products from Oil and Gas industries. These are non-sustainable resources which subsidize to the economy and advancement of a country. These industries use by-products which are ignitable and have a huge risk of explosion. The present techniques implemented on safety measures for the safeguard of employee's life and to avoid explosion is not so appropriate. In this paper we have come up with a concept to shield industry from explosion and also to safeguard employee's life without the help of manual operations. The Common Industrial Protocol based on IEC 61508 standards is implemented on Oil and Gas industry to enable automation in integrated control and safety system of the industry. Coherent integration of I/O control, device configuration and data collection is carried out using this protocol. Monitoring, communicating and comparing certain parameters such as pressure and temperature with the optimum value and performing automatic precautionary operations based on the observed values eliminates the risk of explosion. Common Industrial Protocol design ensures automatic withdrawal of explosion and overcome the disadvantages of current management of explosion. This ultimately helps minimize engineering and installation time and costs and increase the reliability of safety system. In this paper the design and implementation of Common Industrial Protocol based on IEC 61508 standards in Oil and Gas industry on integrated control and system is explained.
