Reliability of Reliability Data

Accurate, repeatable and reliable measurements are vital to safe and efficient refinery operation. Modern measurement technologies typically boast excellent accuracy and repeatability under "reference" or "laboratory" conditions. This paper presents the key reasons for this deviation between laboratory and real world performance. It also presents tools that allow the user to quantify expected deviations prior to installation - in real applications, with real products. This paper will also present some of the failure analysis techniques, show the shortcoming in the methods adopted, describe the attribute of good failure data collection and how improvement in technology and practices can help the user in minimizing and providing more accurate failure rates.
