TL materials show great promise for use as the active element for impact sensors. There are many applications for TL sensors that include monitoring of spacecraft, buildings, automobiles, airplane engines, or lunar habitats: - Smart brake pads. - Hardness of surfaces. - Soldier training. - FOD detection for turbine engines. In addition, other fluorescent materials have been used as sensors to measure temperature and even radiation dose/fluence. Additional financial resources are needed to move this technology to the next level.
