For steady measurements, 10 microns thicknesses do not distort the measurements significantly. In the case of thermal barrier coatings, we want a small thermal conductivity, but this introduces error into the measurement of the substrate temperature. To insure transients do not interfere with measurements, we need to wait at least 15 minutes for the configurations analyzed.
