In Cameroon, the collection and use of solar energy remains unpopular despite the advantages that these present. Meteorological data from 1997-2007 obtained from the Weather station of the Ngaoundere airport was analysed in an effort to establish the suitability of its climate for solar drying. Parameters analysed were temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, sunshine and airspeed. Results showed that, a solar dryer could be used successfully in Ngaoundere even though it would be more judicious to add a second energy source. Temperatures in the dryer rose up to 60°C indicating its suitability for drying. Drying of sheanut kernels in a constructed solar dryer occurred entirely in the falling rate period. Butter extracted from the solar dried kernels was found good for use in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries. These results demonstrate the potentials of the climate in Ngaoundere for use in solar dryers if properly harnessed.
