RETRO-COMMISSIONING PROGRAMS: A COMPARISON OF SUCCESSFUL RCx ENERGY EFFICIENCY PROGRAMS AROUND THE UNITED STATES

Retro-commissioning (RCx), also known as re-commissioning or existing building commissioning, involves improving the operating efficiency of an existing facility by implementing low-cost and no-cost energy conservation measures. Typically, RCx programs are extremely cost-effective and generate substantial demand and energy savings, benefitting both the facility owner and, where applicable, the utility sponsoring the program. However, many facility owners may not be aware of the significant savings opportunities that result from retro-commissioning. This paper (a) presents an overview of a typical RCx project; (b) reviews some common eligibility requirements for RCx projects; (c) depicts some standard RCx energy conservation measures; and (d) discusses the benefits of this process.
