Hanesbrands Inc. (HBI) is a leading marketer of everyday apparel essentials under some of the world's strongest apparel brands including Hanes, Champion, Playtex, Bali, JMS/Just My Size, barely there, and Wonderbra. Its products are sold at the largest mass-merchandise, mid-tier, department-store and club-store retailers, as well as directly to consumers via catalogs, the Internet and more than 200 company-owned retail stores. Hanesbrands' has a world-wide supply chain with facilities and offices in more than 25 countries and employs approximately 50,000. Hanesbrands began operating as separate, independent, publicly traded company in September 2006. Energy management has always been important throughout Hanesbrands' manufacturing and supply chain operations. When Hanesbrands began operating as a single independent company in 2006, the need emerged to formalize and standardize energy management efforts. What resulted was a consistent approach to energy management that transcended previous operational and geographical boundaries. The program received executive and senior level support and was able to permeate through the entire organization. Hanesbrands became an ENERGY STAR partner and employed their broad range of resources. The ENERGY STAR partnership established immediate credibility and brand recognition to the effort. Furthermore, the tools were very helpful in the development and implementation of a holistic approach to energy management. The results of Hanesbrands' strategic approach to energy management have been significant. Since 2007 HBI has reduced energy intensity by over 11%, reduced green house emissions relating to manufacturing by over 12%, reduced water usage by over 10% and has increased its renewable energy portfolio to over 30%. All of this success is given to the hundreds of employees that have joined to support the company's efforts to reduce cost through resource conservation and energy management. Developing an Energy Management Culture is a continual education and communication process. The attached presentation give an overview how Hanesbrands is developing an energy culture.
