In this paper, a two-rectangular U-shaped structure of metamaterial is designed and demonstrated in four different configurations that can achieve negative permeability & permittivity simultaneously. Two unit cells, one constructed by a single two-rectangular U-shaped structure and another by placing two unit cells orthogonal to each other, and then a 2x2 array of these two unit cells are simulated in CST. Constitutive parameters of the material, such as, permittivity (ε), permeability (μ), refractive index (n) are extracted from simulated S-parameters with direct retrieval method and the results are then compared. These metamaterials have various operating frequency ranges and resonant points which make them novel in design and application in the electromagnetic paradigm and some optical devices.
