Use of Mobile Technology in University Libraries: A Case Study of Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Library, Vikram University, Ujjain (M.P.)

Mobile Technology is the most popular and widely used media of communication and covers all the wireless portable electronic devices used to perform multiple tasks. Mobile Technology allows users to make voice calls, send text messages and run applications. Apart from talking, it has provided a wireless connection to any part of the globe to make business deals, payments, shopping, all in consumer's hand. Internet access through mobile has been on the increase as it is convenient and cost effective. Mobile Technology is very useful for university libraries as the younger generation are mostly its clientele. It is an asset for university libraries to provide innovative services. The present study is a case study of Maharaja Jiwaji Rao library, Vikram University, Ujjain to trace out the use of mobile technology to provide online information access and communication. The paper concludes with the need of providing mobile services to users to keep them constantly connected to data and resources and also always to be connected with one another.
