This paper is devoted to a new approach to estimating operation mode parameters and their further optimization by means of impact on control units available in the grids. The state estimation and optimization processes are based on a unified mathematical model, which consists of energy balance equations. This approach offers some advantages in comparision with a traditional model, where the estimation and optimization tasks are performed separately using classical steady-state equations. The proposed unified model considering amount of power energy at certain time intervals gives a better result at changes of both topology and operation modes, which usually takes place in the distribution grids. Thus, for estimating and optimization operating mode parameters in distribution grids, the authors propose to implement a new approach based on the amount of power energy and using a unified mathematical model referred to as the energy flow problem. The capabilities of the unified model are demonstrated through calculation on power/energy flow test distribution grid.
