The permanent magnet synchronous motor with low speed large torque usually has a large volume, and the utilization of the internal space of the rotor of the motor is insufficient. The adoption of double stator topology can make a full use of that internal space, which can improve the power and torque of the motor with double stator topology comparing with the single stator motor of the same size. However, there are not enough researches on this kind of motor, and there are no certain design methods for this type of motor. This paper studies the design method for this kind of motor, including the selection of topological structure, electromagnetic parameters and structural parameters of the motor, and designs a 600kW, 60r/min double stator permanent magnet synchronous motor with low speed large torque. The finite element method was used to analyze the electromagnetic performance of the designed motor. Simulation results show that the designed motor has good no-load characteristics.
