To optimize measurement parameters for multi-target monitoring as far as possible on the basis of the existing equipments, an adjustable parameter stepped frequency continuous wave(SFCW) radar system was built for non-contact vital sign monitoring. Five experiment scenarios were designed and implemented to study the relation between measure accuracy of SFCW radar and various system parameters. The SFCW radar system with a high center frequency, a large bandwidth, a small frequency step, an enough antenna beam width and a suitable elevation angle is necessary to obtain a high precision for multi-target vital sign monitoring, when the transmitting power is kept in a safe and low range.
