The emergence of Internet of Things (IoT), smart power meters and smart electrical appliances is affording consumers of electricity an ability to closely monitor energy consumed and have an option to determine their consumption. These advances in technology arise due to connection of sensors and appliances. This is made possible because loT's value is creating an interaction of gathering data and leveraging it. The IoT infrastructure makes it possible to capture and analyze sensor data in real time. The proposed system uses IoT infrastructure to monitor, smartly measure and schedule the consumption of electricity resources in real time. The IoT sensors, gateways and power meters execute an algorithm to schedule electrical appliances in a home by determining which appliances can be used depending on the user's presence and preference. The system's awareness of energy consumption in a home can help users regulate how much energy is consumed thereby saving money.
