It is desirable for a dual-stage actuated (DSA) magnetic disk drive servo system to achieve fast and accurate read/write (R/W) head positioning. In the present study, we propose a DSA control scheme to improve the head positioning performance. The primary coarse actuator voice coil motor (VCM) is controlled by a notch filter and a lead compensator to facilitate large motion. The secondary micro-actuator (MA) is controlled by a feedback control approach called integral resonant control (IRC) in series with a notch filter to achieve rapid and high-precision head positioning. The proposed control scheme is examined through a simulation example.
