Influence of lubricant viscosity on fretting wear was different between oil and grease lubrication. In the case of oil lubrication, fretting wear was reduced due to high viscosity at A/D > 1.5 because the oil film could be formed. On the other hand, in the case of grease lubrication, it was reduced due to low viscosity at A/D > 1.0 because the thickener film could be formed. Moreover, it was shown that the thickener film acted like a liquid within contact area because fretting wear increased at low viscosity and low velocity regardless of the thickener film formation around contact area.
